If so, we are excited to announce an amazing opportunity for students to participate in our Mosaic Label Design Contest. Not only will you have the chance to express your creativity, but your design could also be the winning label for our newest mosaic label feature. Let’s dive into what this contest is all about and why students should enter this contest.

Our new mosaic label feature allows Grace to change the patterned background of a label over 500 times. This means every label will be different in the background. It’s a form of expression that seamlessly combines precision and imagination.
The Contest: Where Student Talent Shines
The Mosaic Label Design Contest for students is an opportunity to explore patterns and leave your artistic mark. Here’s what you need to know:
- Eligibility: This contest is exclusively for college design students.
- Theme: Design a patterned design. You must submit a label pattern design or mock-up of a company along with the patterned design for craft spirits or a non-alcoholic drink company. Remember this label design will be released in December and it’s for the new year.
- Medium: Your design must be vector artwork done in Adobe Illustrator.
- Prizes: The winner will receive a roll of their winning label design and also the prestigious honor of being featured in our new Mosaic Label feature. The student will be featured on our blog and on our social media for winning the contest. Also, the winning label design will be used to feature our new Mosaic Label feature for the new year.
- Judging: Your designs will be assessed by a panel of experienced artists and experts who will consider creativity, adherence to the theme, and overall aesthetic appeal.
- Direction on Creating the Mosaic Label: To create the mosaic label, the student designer must design the label in Adobe Illustrator. Before designing, specific layers will need to be set up in the layers panel. First, a (text) layer for the text, and then an (object) layer for the main company logo. Second, a (background) layer for the background pattern of the label. In addition, all text must be lighter than the background, or it will get lost.
- Label Design Size: The craft spirit or non-alcoholic drink patterned label must be 7.5 x 3.5 inches in size.
How to Participate
Ready to make your first Mosaic Label pattern? Here’s how to enter:
- Register: Sign up at this link, https://lp.constantcontactpages.com/sl/dCyVxrm/mosaiclabelcontest. You will provide your name, where you go to college, and your email. This will allow us to know an entry count, contact the winner, and send contest emails.
- Get Inspired: Explore resources on pattern designs while keeping the theme in mind. Remember, this patterned background will be different on each label printed.
- Submitting the Mosaic Label Design: Create a folder; inside the folder, have your Illustrator (Ai) file and your exported layers in png format. The text and object layers, when exported, needs to have a transparent background and be exported together as a png. That will avoid any errors with the mosaic effect on the background pattern of the label. Also, the background layer needs to be exported separately and as a png.
- Where to submit the files: Go to https://wetransfer.com/ and upload your files here. You do not have to sign up to upload your files here; it is free. All you have to do is send the files to this email: bmihalec@grace-imaging.com. Please title it, “Mosaic Label Design Entry,” and in the message text area, type your name, title of your mosaic label, and where you go to college.
- Enter Date and Deadline: It begins on October 30, 2023, and ends on November 20, 2023. This gives design students exactly 3 weeks to enter this contest. An extended deadline of one more week may be requested if needed.
- Winner Announcement: On November 28, 2023, the winner will be contacted. Once contacted, we will provide you with more information and gather information to feature you in our blog. Your winning Mosaic Label design will be featured the week of December 18, 2023, for our new mosaic feature release for the new year.
